Clinical History
A case of 45 year old male patient of European origin came to Vaidyaratnam Dr. Raghavan Ramankutty with the diagnosis of Polycythemia Vera in the year 2017.
Patient was diagnosed accidently during regular blood test before blood donation. Bone marrow biopsy and cytogenetic analysis confirmed the diagnosis of Polycythemia.
The patient started experiencing symptoms of Tinnitus, High blood pressure, and developed stones in the gall bladder, with the progression of disease.
Past/Personal History
He is occasional smoker. Patient has history of cardiac arrest in the year 2006.
Dathathreya Ayurveda Therapy
The Ayurveda Therapy was started after meticulous Ayurveda pulse examination. Dr. Raghavan has prescribed special formulated Ayurveda herbal medicines in accordance to his pulse and health status. Phlebotomy was continued for 1 month under guidance of consulting hematologist and discontinued later. He is still taking Ayurvedic medicines.
Results
Patient reported on and off symptomatic episodes, during first month of Ayurveda therapy. Over the next 2 months he repeatedly reported feeling of wellbeing and satisfaction. His symptoms had reduced considerably. After 3 months, symptoms disappeared completely; He is very satisfied with the treatment given by Dr. Raghavan.
Conclusion and Discussion
Patient’s condition is stable. All symptoms and blood parameters have improved to normalcy over 4 months of treatment. Patient is advised to continue Ayurvedic medication till Ayurvedic pulse examination indicates complete stability
